1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Brownell Library is proud to promote 1000 Books Before Kindergarden. This nonprofit foundation encourages caregivers to read 1000 books with their child before they enter kindergarten. Reading together in this way increases early literacy skills, prepares children for school, and provides a bonding experience for caregivers and children.
Participation is simple:
- Register and pick up your first reading log at the youth desk.
- Stop by the youth desk and let us know when you and your child finish 100 books. We will update our records and give you the next reading log and a paper train car to track your progress.
- Every 200 books, your child will receive a free book from the library book sale.
- This process will be repeated until you reach the 1000 books goal. At that time, your child will have a complete train to display at home, 1000 books under their belt, a few free books from our perpetual book sale shelves, and a certificate of completion.
Happy reading!
