1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarden is a non-profit foundation that encourages parents to read 1,000 books with their child before he or she enters kindergarten.  This increases early literacy skills, prepares children for school, and helps bond parents/caregivers and children.

Childhood reading is linked to later academic success.

Participation is simple.

You register your child at the Youth Desk and are given a reading log for 100 books.  When you and your child finish 100 books, you bring the completed log to the desk.  A librarian will sign it, you will receive a log for the next 100 books, and your child will be given a paper train car as a reward.  This process is repeated until you reach the 1,000 book goal.

Every 200 books, your child will receive a free book from the library book sale.

We are passionate about fostering early literacy skills and a love of reading in young children.

We hope to see you take the challenge and read 1,000 books with your child.  Happy reading!
